Allan Douglass Coleman in Performance:
spine in Las Vegas, March 5, 2001

(back to Performances menu)

A stint as Critic/Artist-in-Residence in the Department of Art at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, from mid-January through mid-March of 2001, included the use of a studio. This enabled me to rehearse and -- just prior to my departure -- present a live-performance version of spine, my collaboration with Nina Sederholm and Mikko Hassinen. (More about this project.) Minimal documentation; here's a small QuickTime excerpt. In the background you'll hear a mix of Mikko's music and the siren wail of Lost Wages's finest en route to something or other.

Projecting Nina's images in a simple indoor stage set, with Mikko's haunting music in the background, I performed the full set of 30 texts for an audience of about 50 people, drawn mainly from the faculty and students of the UNLV Art Dept. on Monday, March 5, 2001, at 6 p.m.
